
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is reaching out to the public for any information that could lead to the identification of suspects involved in a residential arson on July 4 in Covington. The house at 711 Best Street was left in ruins after a fire broke out at approximately 11:30 p.m. However, a woman and a child were transported to the hospital as a precaution for possible smoke inhalation, according to Action News 5. Witnesses at the scene described a loud explosion and suggested fireworks as the cause of the blaze.
The Covington Police Department (CPD), in cooperation with the TBI's Bomb and Arson Unit, is investigating the arson. Described by officials, a red vehicle containing several individuals was seen in the vicinity, discharging fireworks around the time the fire started. The police have announced that whoever is cited with the arson will face charges and be brought before the Tipton County Juvenile Court. The CPD has also made it known through FOX13 Memphis that a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that results in an arrest. Destroyed totally by the fire was the house, which has been declared a complete loss.
