Danny Boy’s Famous Original is serving up its version of the classic New York slice at a new location in Westwood Village, as chef and restaurateur Daniel Holzman continues to bring a piece of the Big Apple to the West Coast. Taking over the former 800 Degrees at 10889 Lindbrook Drive, the new Danny Boy’s opened on July 17 with seating for 56 patrons, plus additional options for beer and wine. It's evident that Holzman, of Meatball Shop fame, has channeled his New York City roots into creating a menu that's as much about tradition as it is about taste.
The pizzeria, which originally launched in Downtown Los Angeles in August 2021, to widely capture a loyal following, will offer many of the same pizzas that made it popular, but with some new twists. According to Eater LA, customers in Westwood can expect to indulge in three-day cold fermented dough pies ranging from standard cheese and pepperoni to inventive options like the white pie with mushrooms and the meatball pie. With the expansion, the menu will also eventually feature sandwiches and pasta dishes ready for those on the go. Holzman’s experience shines through in his meticulous approach to pizza-making, as he told What Now Los Angeles, "Making great pizza consistently is a labor of love."
In addition to the pizza, the menu showcases Holzman’s famous beef and pork meatballs, garlic knots, and buffalo hot wings, as well as salads such as Greek, Caesar, and Italian combo. Not leaving the sandwich-lovers behind, the meatball Parmesan and chicken Parmesan stand ready to satisfy hearty appetites. In a nod to the future, Holzman plans to expand the culinary repertoire of the Westwood location to include more variants in comparison to its downtown counterpart, adding items like stromboli, cold sandwiches, and spaghetti with meatballs.
The design of the Westwood eatery takes cues from the quintessential New York pizzeria with red, white, and green tile walls, blond wood tables, and pictures of classic NYC pizza storefronts adorning the walls. Customers at the new Danny Boy’s can also catch a glimpse of the kitchen in action, adding an interactive twist to the dining experience. The atmosphere aims to evoke the same nostalgia that inspired Holzman’s foray into pizza-making. As he reminisced in his interview with What Now Los Angeles, "Danny Boy’s epitomizes the slice joint of my childhood dreams."
The pizzeria’s current hours are 10:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. Monday through Friday, but Danny Boy’s intends to gradually extend their hours, including opening on weekends. The restaurant is not merely a dining destination but an experience that celebrates a mix of culinary fidelity and innovation, key ingredients that make Danny Boy’s a noteworthy addition to Westwood’s food scene.
