The introduction of this room at the South Substation was shared with the public in a recent Facebook post from the Denton Police Department, citing the ability of such spaces to provide a safe place for survivors.
Before this, the Department's Headquarters had already seen the establishment of a similar room funded by the First Christian Church in April, following the poignant narrative of Molly Jane, survivors have since provided positive feedback regarding their experiences in the room at Headquarters, according to the same source, the Department hopes that the South Substation's room will offer comparable solace and the space has been fashioned with the express purpose of helping survivors feel more at ease during an inherently difficult process.
This second soft interview room aims at continuing the Department's commitment to fostering an understanding and nurturing environment for those who have endured trauma, echoing a growing trend in law enforcement to reevaluate and reinvent the methods used to interact with the public, especially victims of crime.
