Early Tuesday morning, firefighters were summoned to address a fire at Court House Square Apartments in downtown Ann Arbor. As reported by ClickOnDetroit, the Ann Arbor Fire Department arrived on the scene at approximately 7:27 a.m. to discover smoke and evidence of water leakage on the 7th floor, instigated by a fire that had engulfed a plastic plant in the building's lobby.
The fire was effectively doused by the 7th floor's sprinkler system. This activation led to further damage beyond the initial combustion, impacting an elevator and various other areas with water damage. Amidst the chaos, firefighters were able to quickly stop the water flow and begin efforts to ventilate the area, ensuring that no injuries were reported from the incident. The Fire Department's response was upgraded to a citywide response, which ensured resources were effectively deployed to manage the situation.
Court House Square, located at 100 S. Fourth Ave., is now under scrutiny as investigators attempt to unravel the cause of the fire. The City of Ann Arbor Fire Department's Facebook page offered insight into the incident, noting that "The cause of the fire is suspicious and under investigation." As authorities dig deeper, residents and nearby business owners are awaiting answers as to what might have led a seemingly innocuous plastic plant to become the source of potential danger.
Investigations continue, with further details to follow as they are made available by fire department officials and other authorities involved.
