An Illinois resident named Robin Lee Reierson has recently entered a guilty plea in connection with the violence that erupted at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia. Reierson, 69, admitted to assaulting law enforcement officers amid the chaos that sought to disrupt the electoral vote count that confirmed the 2020 presidential election results.
Reierson faced charges before U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton and, having pleaded guilty, is slated for sentencing on October 16, 2024; Reierson joined the throngs of rioters at the Capitol's West Plaza and participated in pushing against police barricades, the court documents revealed his involvement in the turmoil as he used his back and body to force police back using bike rack barriers also urging other rioters to "Don’t stop, keep going" as he withdrew—a detail the FBI noted when arresting him on August 23, 2023, in Illinois, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia.
Authorities still welcome public assistance in identifying participants in the January 6 events; individuals with knowledge or evidence concerning the riot are encouraged to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit tips.fbi.gov, the investigation is far from over, with law enforcement relying on tips from individuals across the country to bring more participants to justice, as federal efforts to address the events of that day are still actively being pursued.
