East Deer residents and daily commuters should note the upcoming changes to Baileys Run Road traffic patterns. As announced by the Department of Public Works, the 400 block of Baileys Run Road is scheduled to reopen on July 31, following a closure that has been in effect since May 6 for critical infrastructure improvements. The reopening will bring some relief to locals who've been navigating detours for nearly three months, according to Allegheny County's statement.
However, the same day, a new section of Baileys Run Road greeted its own barricades. Stretching between the Route 28 ramp and Freeport Road, this segment will close for similar enhancements—a new retaining wall, drainage upgrades, milling, paving, and fresh pavement markings. It's a swap of access that keeps the wheels of progress turning, albeit alongside the churn of commuter discontent. According to the county's statement, the work is supposed to wrap up by October 2024.
To accommodate the closure, the Department of Public Works has devised an alternate route. Traffic is now rerouted along Russellton Airport Road, Butler Logan Road, Crawford Run Road, and Freeport Road—an important consideration for the average of 4,363 drivers who traverse Baileys Run Road daily.
