Bloomington is extending a warm welcome to the engineering and architecture firm TKDA as they make a significant move. The company is uprooting its headquarters from St. Paul and planting itself in the fertile business environment of Bloomington. Specifically, they are taking over the former Ceridian office at 3311 E. Old Shakopee Road in the South Loop.
On a local touch, before the coming renovations, TKDA opened its future home to employees in an event held on July 9. Attending the open house, Bloomington's Mayor Tim Busse said, "We are rolling out the red carpet. We are very welcoming and want people to feel at home," a sentiment retrieved from Bloomington's website. Showing continued investment in the city, TKDA boasts around 20 employees who are currently occupying a satellite office at MSP airport, a cornerstone of their operations in the region.
Perhaps most indicative of the firm's commitment to the future is the 87,000 square feet of office space TKDA is gearing to renovate. The move and renovation are expected to infuse Bloomington with 300 employees, with an ambitious target to unveil the revamped space by March 2025.
Overlooking the sprawling greenery of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, the location was picked partially because TKDA believes it "will encourage employee wellness and support a collaborative culture," per the remarks of CEO Tom Stoneburner. While cementing the deal, Stoneburner shared, "We’re really excited to be here. We did a lot of searching and went through a rigorous process of Bloomington, this building, and the neighborhood. We're really looking forward to a bright future here." found on Bloomington's news post.
Not only is TKDA settling in South Loop, but companies like Polar Semiconductor and SICK industries are similarly drumming up business and job opportunities. Speaking to the ongoing boom, Mayor Busse remarked on how “Bloomington is really on a roll right now for business expansion, growth and development.” According to him, what draws businesses into the embrace of the city is not merely its robust transportation system or its solid workforce, but the overarching sense of community people find in Bloomington.
For over a century, TKDA, an employee-owned firm, has been a formidable force in engineering, architecture, and planning. With a history dating back to 1910, and offices spread from Saint Paul to Seattle, the firm's handshake with Bloomington marks not merely a change of address, but a forward step in its own narrative and that of the city's economic landscape.
