
Following a brief manhunt, Honolulu Police have apprehended 31-year-old David Montoya after he escaped custody at the Kapolei Police Station earlier this Sunday. According to a report by KITV, Montoya was initially detained on Kaunolu Street in Ewa Beach at 9:45 a.m. for a TRO violation and outstanding warrants. His escape occurred shortly after.
Authorities began an extensive search immediately following the incident. Montoya, described as roughly 5'9" and weighing 170 pounds with dark curly hair, was last seen donning a black hoodie, black sweatpants, and white Crocs, managed to evade the police earlier while being processed at the station.
The pursuit came to an end in Makakilo, where Montoya was found and taken back into custody later that evening. In a news update posted by The Star-Advertiser, he was captured "this evening in Makakilo," confirming that the search operation concluded successfully with no mention of the duration between escape and capture.
The Honolulu Police Department has not released additional details surrounding the circumstances of Montoya’s escape or his capture. Calls to the police and efforts to gather more information, he managed to shed light on the oversight that allowed for the escape, are ongoing.
