For those regularly traversing Route 87 in Lycoming County, be prepared for a shuffle in your commute as resurfacing work by Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. continues. Starting today, motorists will encounter single-lane conditions accompanied by flagmen steering the traffic from the Interstate 180 overpass in Montoursville Borough to Snyder's Country Pet Food.
As stated by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, milling operations will occur from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM while paving will lay its course through darker hours from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Being caught off guard, motorists are advised to slow down and anticipate delays when driving through the zone of work during these hours.
The $2.6 million project not only includes the milling and paving of the road but also stretches into further improvements. Base repairs, drainage work, and guide rail and sign upgrades are part of the itinerary, intending to enhance the overall driver experience and safety. As outlined by PennDOT, these upgrades are more than a mere facelift but a commitment to infrastructure resilience.
Completion of the project is projected for the fall of 2024, pending cooperative weather allows it. Recognizing the disruption, those behind the wheel are urged to maintain vigilance and patience through the construction areas. With progress often comes some discomfort, and with the easing into the evening, the rumble of the paving machines is a temporary signpost of development as the night beckons, motorists need to be especially alert.
