Michigan Auto Law, based in Farmington Hills, has released its annual report on the state's most perilous intersections, spotlighting the need for heightened caution among drivers. The firm's findings, which draw on data from the Michigan State Police, reveal a concentration of dangerous crossings in Southeast Michigan, with 18 of the top 20 located within this region. As per the law firm's data, the intersection of 11 Mile Road and Interstate 696 at Van Dyke Avenue topped the list with 218 crashes and 52 injuries, according to a statement obtained by Click on Detroit.
The list, which includes roundabouts as well as signaled intersections, such as Martin Parkway at N. Pontiac Trail in Commerce Township with 160 crashes, and the Schoolcraft Road at Telegraph Road junction in Redford Township with 154 crashes, serves as a stark reminder. Five of the listed intersections are roundabouts, a fact highlighted in coverage by CBS Detroit. These figures are not mere statistics but reflect the tumult of metal and bone that likely unfolds there daily.
For a deeper understanding of the gravity these numbers hold, the intersection of Orchard Lake and 14 Mile roads in Farmington Hills saw a startling doubling in crashes from the previous five-year period, as detailed by Click on Detroit. And in a harrowing testament to the hazards present, the intersection of U.S. 131 and Wealthy Street in Grand Rapids was marked by one fatality alongside 28 injuries.
In response to the consistent appearance of certain locations on the list, Michigan Auto Law has launched a billboard campaign designed to promote safety awareness among motorists. A statement by the firm, as told to the Detroit Free Press, expresses the advocacy for residents to consider alternate routes and urges extra caution at these intersections. In addressing these trouble spots, the firm advocates not just route changes but a broader sense of vigilance, hoping to stem the tide of accidents that have been, unfortunately, all too common.
