Early this morning, a significant crash involving three vehicles and an ambulance resulted in five people being injured near Baptist Memorial Hospital. According to Action News 5, the incident took place on Humphreys Boulevard shortly after 10 a.m., with their crews witnessing the aftermath of the ambulance on its side.
The Memphis Police Department arrived at the scene in the 6200 block of Humphreys Boulevard, and a spokesperson from the Memphis Fire Department confirmed the ambulance was attending to a previous accident before the collision occurred, the Local Memphis reports, that this adds another layer of urgency to an already chaotic scene, as first responders find themselves among the victims needing aid.
There is an ongoing investigation to ascertain the sequence of events that led to the crash. As per the information from FOX13 Memphis, the ambulance was privately owned and not part of the Memphis Fire Department's fleet. The Memphis Police said that out of the five injured, “one woman was critically injured while another woman and three men suffered non-critical injuries" in the accident that also disrupted traffic flow between Walmart Grove Road and Humphreys Center.
