In a harrowing incident on Friday in Placer County, four people were hospitalized after their vehicle, a Jeep, went off the side of Foresthill Road, careening down a steep embankment. The vehicle plummeted an estimated 100 feet and rolled over several times before coming to rest. The Foresthill Fire Protection District reported that initial crews faced challenging terrain which necessitated a significant response effort.
The crash occurred just after 12:30 p.m. near Elliot Ranch Road. According to FOX40, crews worked quickly to stabilize and extricate the injured passengers. Multiple agencies were involved in the rescue, with personnel from the CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit providing initial care. The technicality of the accident required to immediately call for additional resources including three air ambulances and a rescue helicopter.
The California Highway Patrol's H-24 helicopter played a crucial role in the rescue operations, successfully airlifting two of the patients from the wreckage to waiting air ambulances. CBS Sacramento reports that another patient was transported to an air ambulance by ground, while the fourth was taken directly to Sutter Roseville hospital via a ground ambulance.
The rugged landscape presented considerable challenges for the rescue teams, a common trait among the untamed stretches of Placer County. The Foresthill Fire Protection District emphasized the difficult nature of the crash, with the Jeep resting some 50 feet down the embankment, according to the same CBS Sacramento coverage. Details on the cause of the crash and the current condition of the hospitalized individuals have not been revealed, leaving a community to await developments with hopes for their swift and full recovery.
