An unfortunate incident at a Texas swimming pool has left a 13-year-old boy, Semyon Williams Jr., with a potentially life-altering injury. "It was a normal day," Anya Camper, Semyon's mother, said of the day her son set out to enjoy a swim with friends, despite her initial hesitation, reports WSAZ. In a bid to escape a wasp that had alarmed him, the teenager dove into the water and suffered serious spinal injuries.

After the incident, which unfolded in Frisco, witnesses reported seeing S.J., as he is known, diving into the pool fearing a nearby wasp, as stated in FOX San Antonio. The dive resulted in Semyon hitting the bottom of the pool, causing neck fractures which required surgery. According to doctors, the impact shattered his spinal cord, leaving the young boy, once a football player and avid swimmer, unable to move his arms or legs.

“He couldn’t move. He was literally drinking water,” Camper related to WSAZ. A timely intervention by a friend who rescued him from the pool was critical, after which emergency crews rushed Semyon to Children's Health Hospital for treatment. The future for S.J. remains uncertain as his family grapples with the possibility of him being quadriplegic. His mother expresses her distress to WSAZ, "As a mom, it's just gut-wrenching, literally helpless. He's looking to me to fix it. And that's one thing I can't do. I can't fix this. So, it's... it's hard."

Despite the grim prognosis, the family is holding onto hope. "We're praying and believing that God will do a miracle ... perform a miracle on my son because he has too much more full life to live," Camper told FOX San Antonio.
