In a troubling series of events, a Galt man has been placed under arrest on suspicion of felony DUI following a multi-vehicle crash. The incident took place yesterday afternoon on the 200 block of Palin Avenue. According to a report by ABC10, Israel Bautista-Morfin, 31, was found in the driver seat of a Honda minivan, showing signs of severe intoxication and with a blood alcohol content four times over the legal limit.
Police state that Bautista-Morfin, seemingly losing control of the minivan, ventured through two front yards, colliding with two parked vehicles. Striking the parked cars with such force, one was pushed into a household's carport. One of the struck vehicles also contained a person, who was, following the chaos, taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, with a structure involved in the accident heap described in a Facebook post by Galt Police Department.
The Galt Police Department further explained that after the accident, they began receiving calls around 4:30 pm describing the situation. "When officers arrived on scene, they located Israel Bautista-Morfin, 31, of Galt, sitting in the driver seat of a Honda minivan," the police stated on Facebook. "Israel showed objective signs of intoxication and was found to have over four times the legal limit for blood alcohol content." The incident led to Bautista-Morfin's arrest for felony driving under the influence.
Bautista-Morfin was subsequently transported to the local hospital for minor injuries sustained in the crash. "Once cleared, he will be booked into the Sacramento Main Jail," the arresting officers reported on the scene as mentioned on Facebook, which found Bautista-Morfin in the aftermath of the incident clearly inebriated. The exact motivation for Bautista-Morfin's deviation from the road that day remains a mystery to authorities.
