Starting today, Garland Police are cracking down on speeders in a new traffic enforcement campaign dubbed "Operation Slowdown." In partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), local law enforcement aims to reduce speeding and improve roadway safety through heightened policing efforts that are scheduled to last until Sunday, August 4.

Speeding is a critical safety issue in Texas, being a contributing factor in approximately one out of four deadly crashes according to TxDOT. In 2023 alone, over 1,200 deaths were reported due to these high-velocity incidents. "Operation Slowdown" targets high-traffic zones and notorious speeding spots, inadvertently making road safety a bargain. The operation's goal is to deter speedy and aggressive driving, increase awareness of speeding dangers, and ultimately decrease the occurrence of speed-related accidents and fatalities.

According to the Garland Police Department, Chief Jeff Bryan emphasized the preventable nature of speeding. "Speeding is not only dangerous but also completely preventable. By participating in 'Operation Slowdown,' we are committed to making our roads safer for everyone. We urge all drivers to slow down and drive responsibly." Garland Police urge the community to support their efforts to make roads safer and help #EndTheStreakTX.
