An investigation is currently underway in Banks County, Georgia, following an officer-involved shooting that resulted in two fatalities. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken the lead at the request of the Banks County Sheriff's Office. The incident, which took place in the town of Alto, did not result in injuries to any deputies.
The sequence of events began earlier, at approximately 9:30 a.m. when Forsyth County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at a residence on Cedar Drive to execute an arrest warrant. It was reportedly close to 11:05 a.m. when deputies made their way to the home, where the shooting occurred, resulting in the death of two individuals whose names have not yet been disclosed pending notification of next of kin. According to GBI's press release, Banks County deputies were present to offer backup but were not directly responsible for the engagement.
Details concerning the circumstances that led to the shooting have not been made widely available as the GBI maintains an ongoing investigation. They have stated that autopsies on the deceased will be conducted by a GBI Medical Examiner to provide additional insight into the precise causes of death.
The outcome of the GBI's independent investigation, which promises to thoroughly examine the incident, will be eventually forwarded to the Banks County District Attorney's Office for further examination and any potential prosecutorial action.
