A Georgetown resident has been sentenced to a 45-year prison term for methamphetamine distribution, a decision made following a jury trial in Williamson County. According to CBS Austin, Eric Lon Jones, 31, delivered two ounces of methamphetamine to officers in an undercover sting operation before being found guilty this Monday.
Details reveal that the sting was a coordinated effort between the Department of Public Safety and the Round Rock Police Department, meticulously planned to closely track and ultimately capture Jones, who was fined an additional $10,000, as per CBS Austin. Evidence presented during the sentencing phase of the trial indicated that Jones had managed to continue to significantly engage in drug trafficking even while out on bond after his initial arrest.
Jones's legal troubles compounded with a simultaneous conviction for the unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, as detailed by FOX 7 Austin. His history with the law includes past felony convictions for child endangerment and burglary, which arguably contributed to the harshness of the court's decision.
"The verdict in this case sends a clear message that the illegal sale and distribution of dangerous drugs in our community will not be tolerated," Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick said, as quoted by CBS Austin.
