An 18-year-old from East Valley, identified as Cody Kostoryz, has been handed a sentence of three years of probation after his involvement in the assault of a teen outside a Gilbert home in late 2022; the sentencing is the result of a plea agreement, as reported by Fox 10 Phoenix.
Together with Gage Garrison, 19, Kostoryz was arrested back in February and both faced charges of aggravated assault connected to the December incident, during which Kostoryz admitted to the assault and also confirmed his presence in a video recording of the event, the circumstances of the beating at the party have yet, to unveil all its darker layers, with details trickling in through official documents and court testimonies. Per admissions in court documents AllSides notes, Kostoryz has not shied away from his role in the assault, aligning his confession with video evidence.
The sentence for Kostoryz comes as the community still feels the sting of another violent incident, the death of Preston Lord in Queen Creek, a case that led to the arrest and indictment of seven individuals on charges connected to that incident, although Kostoryz and Garrison were not implicated in Lord's case, as per FOX 10 Phoenix.
