The 95th Lake County Fair, a hallmark of summer fun and community spirit, has swung open its gates in Grayslake, with an expected turnout of some 100,000 visitors over its five-day course. As reported by the Chicago Tribune, the fair features a plethora of attractions, ranging from baby crawling and husband calling contests, to livestock judging and modern entertainment like motorsports and carnival rides. Chey Pribel, marketing director for the fair, emphasized the significance of the fair in fostering a sense of togetherness among the attendees and the importance of preserving this tradition for future generations.
In alignment with the Olympic games in Paris, which kick off this Friday, the fair has its own competitive flair; visitors can check out the Grayslake Police versus Grayslake Fire Olympic Relay Race this Sunday, but The Canine Stars Stunt Dog Show, Show Me Swine Pig Races and various pageants also take the spotlight, according to details from the Chicago Tribune, and besides the athletic fun there are quieter moments like Flower Hour, which caters to families with sensory needs and this one-hour session offers subdued attractions to accommodate these attendees on the opening day.
Joining the fair's diverse mix of traditional and modern experiences, the Glenview Clovers 4-H Club from Historic Wagner Farm brought approximately 40 head of livestock for the judging arena as the Chicago Tribune reported, where youngsters like Linus Coleman and Emma Schirmer presented their well-groomed lambs to the crowds. Coleman highlighted the relentless efforts put into preparing the animals for show—their Super Bowl, as he put it. Blake Lanphier, farm operations manager at Historic Wagner Farm, underscored the value of interaction at the fair, pointing out the culmination of hard work that these young club members pour into their projects for this event. Meanwhile, for the young at heart, daily admission to the fair is set at $15 with other price points for seniors and children, and family passes are available as noted by the Daily Herald.
The fair's itinerary is packed with various grandstand events, free with admission, such as demolition derby, motocross, and pro bull riding nestled among other thrills of the fair's offerings, which also include live musical acts like the Operation Glow Taylor Swift Party, Brass From The Past, and Total Beaches, the Daily Herald further elaborates.
