An 18-year-old man was arrested in Gwinnett County for allegations involving the disappearance and molestation of a 14-year-old girl from North Carolina. Kevin Carcamo-Garcia faces serious charges such as statutory rape and child molestation after investigators say he was involved in a relationship with the minor and transported her across state lines.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the Gwinnett County Police Department was requested by the U.S. Marshals Service to assist in the search for the teenager. Carcamo-Garcia, after being found with the girl at a residence in Gwinnett County, admitted to having a relationship with her and to having taken her from North Carolina to Georgia.
The search efforts by the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Trafficking and Child Exploitation (TRACE) and Gang Units led to the safe recovery of the girl who was then taken into the care of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services. The mother of the girl was eventually able to reunite with her daughter.
In addition to the law enforcement agencies, Mosaic Georgia, a nonprofit organization that provides support to victims of sexual violence, was also involved in the effort to locate the teen. WSB-TV reports that this case is under investigation by the specialized units within the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office. Carcamo-Garcia was apprehended at his home in Gwinnett County, and is currently awaiting due process in the Gwinnett County Adult Detention Center.
