Last night, Boston police took into custody 58-year-old Jesus Garcia of Haverhill after a reported armed robbery occurred on Massachusetts Avenue near Boylston Street. According to the Boston Police Department's official report, Garcia allegedly gripped his waistband and threatened to shoot the victim before fleeing with a stolen phone and cash.
The incident prompted a quick response from officers in Boston’s District D-4 (South End) along with the Transit Police, who, upon receiving a distress call at approximately 8:47 PM, initiated a manhunt that eventually led to Garcia’s arrest. Officers tracked the victim’s stolen phone to a train, stopped the train, called the phone, and identified Garcia when the device in his possession began to ring. The sequence of events outlined by the police spoke to the effectiveness of coordinated law enforcement efforts and technology in apprehending suspects swiftly.
Police further identified Garcia as having an active warrant for a separate incident of unarmed robbery. He is expected to stand before the court to face the consequences of his suspected actions with an arraigned hearing scheduled at Boston Municipal Court for the charges of Armed Robbery.
