In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking in Hillsborough County, local law enforcement has successfully apprehended an individual with a substantial criminal history. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Alonzo Lewis, a 34-year-old man previously convicted 18 times, for his alleged involvement in the trafficking of dangerous narcotics. In a statement obtained by the department's recent press release, undercover detectives are reported to have conducted numerous operations leading to Lewis's capture.
The arrest is the culmination of a month-long investigation by HCSO's Opioid Overdose Investigations Section. Alonzo Lewis, peddling what the streets call danger, sold more than 14 grams of fentanyl to undercover detectives. According to the press release, detectives found Lewis also in possession of other narcotics, including cocaine and oxycodone.
Sheriff Chronister expressed a strong stance against drug trafficking in the community, highlighting the dangers it poses and the commitment of the HCSO to tackle this issue. "I am incredibly proud of our detectives for taking this Alonso Lewis off the streets. He was not only endangering the lives of our residents with that poison but also profiting from illegal activities," Sheriff Chronister said. "Let me be clear: we will not tolerate this behavior. That is why we have established our Opioid Overdose Investigations Section, to ensure our streets are free of these deadly substances and those who attempt to distribute them in our community."
Lewis faces a litany of charges which, along with the trafficking of fentanyl, include possession with intent to sell other controlled substances and an attempted purchase of methamphetamine. With the intent to sell, the law enforcement, during the arrest, also discovered Lewis had possession of drug paraphernalia. The investigation is reported as ongoing, and any further developments will be released by the Public Affairs Office of the HCSO.
