Honolulu is rocked by a disturbing incident as Hawai'i Island police call on the community to help identify a potential kidnapping victim and his assailants following a shocking affray at a Hilo shopping center. The events unfolded on the evening of July 7, when South Hilo patrol officers arrived at the scene on Kanoelehua Avenue around 6:55 p.m. According to police reports, the victim had driven to the location in a silver 2003 Honda Accord. Soon after, assailants arrived in a white Toyota Tundra, promptly to assault the individual, and ultimately forced him into the back seat of their truck before leaving the area.
Despite the recovery of cellphone video evidence, the identities of those involved remain a mystery, including the victim and the trio of attackers. Police investigations into the Honda’s license plates and VIN have, to thus far, come up empty. Observations of the victim describe him in a high-visibility green t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers, while the abductors were cloaked in dark attire, two in black hoodies, and one in a black t-shirt as per Nixle.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the victim or the suspects to step forward and assist in the investigation. Detective Kimo Keli'ipa'akaua of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section is the point of contact for any leads, reachable at (808) 961-2375 or via email at [email protected].
