As the Fourth of July approaches, the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has issued a reminder for revelers to enjoy the celebrations while respecting community rules and the natural environment. According to a recent announcement by the DPR, Pu‘uloa Beach Park will be closed starting Wednesday, July 3 at 8 p.m., and will reopen on Friday, July 5 at 5 a.m. The temporary closure intends to reduce the launch of illegal fireworks in the area, and as a result, vehicular barriers will be installed to restrict access to the 4.88-acre beach park during this period. The Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation has indicated that the barriers will likely be removed a few hours after the park reopens.

In absence of this year's fireworks at Ala Moana Regional Park, commonly referred to as "the People’s Park," there will be no overnight stays or permits for park facility use over the holiday. Park facilities are available on a first-come-first-served basis during the standard open hours from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Reflecting on the adjustments, park-goers are asked to celebrate with consideration for fellow park users and maintain the environment by adhering to the set guidelines.

Meanwhile, the annual fireworks display at Kailua Beach Park is expected to draw large crowds. As stated by the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation, event organizers are providing a free shuttle service from the Kailua Longs Parking Lot to the Kailula Beach Center from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on July 4. The fireworks show is set to begin at 8 p.m., and support for the event's parking needs will be offered through the use of parking lots at Kailua Beach Park and Kailua District Park, with assistance from city and state emergency responders.

The City and County of Honolulu takes pride in offering support through the partial sponsorship of the 2024 Kailua Fireworks Display. The DPR encourages the community to respect the park rules during the holidays, emphasizing the importance of proper disposal of BBQ coals in designated pits, keeping music at reasonable levels, and ensuring litter is thrown away in rubbish bins. Reminding the community, they add, "If can, pack out what you brought into the park."

For individuals needing additional assistance or accommodations due to a disability, or an interpreter for a language other than English, the Honolulu DPR invites them to reach out on weekdays from 7:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., or to email [email protected]. At least three business days' notice is advised to ensure requests can be accommodated. The DPR extends a wish for a healthy and safe 4th of July Holiday to all.
