A suspect has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting of a young woman found at an apartment complex on Westpark Drive earlier this month. Houston police identified the suspect as 42-year-old Bruce Wayne Gerard, now facing capital murder charges following his arrest last Friday. According to the City of Houston News, Gerard's booking image was released along with the announcement of the charges.
The victim, who was 25 years old at the time of her death, was discovered unresponsive inside an apartment unit suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. A formal identification of the victim is still pending as per the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Details surrounding the incident emerged after HPD Homicide Division Detectives D. Davis and C. Davidson attended a home invasion call at the Westpark Drive address on the night of July 2. The follow-up investigation led to the arrest and formal accusations against Gerard.
Official reports state that at the time of the initial call, officers found no immediate suspect. "Officers were dispatched to a home invasion call at an apartment at the above address and found a woman unresponsive inside one of the units. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased," the detectives reported.
The breakthrough came after a thorough investigation by HPD detectives, following which Gerard was pinpointed as a prime suspect and taken into custody without further incident. The case, which has now moved to the courts, is being reviewed by the 482nd State District Court.
