
Houston residents were shaken by news of a fatal shooting in the northeast section of the city, where 55-year-old George Baeza-Cantu was shot dead. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gun violence on the 5600 block of East Hillside in the early hours, where they found Baeza-Cantu with multiple gunshot wounds.
An arrest in connection with the murder has been made, with Jeremisaac Vilano, born August 8, 1981, charged for the crime. "Today, investigators charged Jeremisaac Vilano (8-8-81) w the murder of Baeza-Cantu. The motive remains under investigation," said a post from Sheriff Ed Gonzalez on X. Details surrounding the motive and circumstances of the shooting are under investigation, with Vilano now in custody at the Harris County Jail.

As the community reels from this violent act, the HCSO continues to investigate the incident, looking for answers and appealing to the public for any information that may assist in understanding the events that led up to Baeza-Cantu's death. Describing the tragedy, Sheriff Gonzalez said in a brief statement shared on X, "HCSOTexas units responded to the 5600 blk of E. Hillside.
