Houston authorities are currently investigating a fatal hit-and-run that transpired on the East Freeway early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. at the 5800 block of the East Interstate Highway 10, where a 41-year-old man was struck by an unidentified vehicle after stopping in a moving lane of traffic, as stated in an announcement by the Houston Police Department.

According to HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer C. Moralez, the man was driving a white Toyota Camry eastbound when his car hit an object on the freeway. The driver, whose identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, pulled over and mistakenly stopped in a traffic lane. As he exited his vehicle and walked to the front of the Camry, another vehicle collided with the rear of his car, causing it to strike him.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the rear-end collision did not stay to render help and fled the scene. The Houston Fire Department paramedics were called, and they pronounced the man dead. The passenger accompanying the deceased man at the time of the accident was reported unharmed.

Law enforcement is now reaching out to the community for assistance in tracking down the driver responsible for this tragic event. HPD has urged anyone with information about the hit-and-run to contact the HPD Hit and Run unit directly at 713-247-4065 or to provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
