Early Monday morning, chaos erupted in a Houston apartment complex as residents were startled by the sound of gunfire. The incident, which took place around 2:20 a.m. at 10630 Beechnut Street, left one man dead, according to City of Houston News. The 49-year-old victim, whose name has not been released pending family notification, was found in the common area of the complex, suffering from gunshot wounds.
As Houston Police Department's Homicide Division, led by Sergeant Mark Holbrook and Detective Robert Lujan, works to piece together the events, the search for the assailant continues. A statement by HPD outlines that witnesses called 911 after hearing the shots, and upon investigation, authorities discovered the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The lack of concrete leads on suspect(s) or a motive for the shooting makes this case still very much an open inquiry.
Police are asking members of the public to help bring closure to this brutal event. "At this time, there is no known suspect(s) or motive in the shooting," as stated in the HPD report. Information that could lead to the capture and conviction of the responsible party is critical. Members of the public can reach the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
