As Houston gears up to celebrate Independence Day, Harris County's METRO is rolling out a special schedule for the holiday. According to the Houston Chronicle, METRO services including local buses, METRORail, METRORapid, and METRO curb2curb will observe Sunday schedules on July 4. However, services such as Park & Ride will not be in operation.
Independence Day will also affect other METRO services. The Customer Service Call Center will keep their doors open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., ready to assist riders via phone or text at 713-635-4000 or 713-635-6993, while METROLift reservations and customer service offices will cease operations on Thursday as the nation dips its hat to freedom’s celebration. Subscription trips normally scheduled for July 4 are preemptively cancelled.
For those planning ahead, the CW39 notes METRO will maintain its regular hours on Wednesday, July 3, ensuring travelers can make their preparations without interruption the day before Independence Day. However, ride-savvy Houstonians are advised to call the reservation line at 713-225-6716 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday to secure METROLift services for July 4 or 5. Alternatively, they can schedule trips using MACS at 713-739-4690 or the METROLift MACS-WEB Online Trip Planner, one full day prior to their travel date.
The holiday schedule adjustment continues with METRO's High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) and High Occupancy Toll (HOT) express lanes set to close on Thursday, echoing across routes such as IH-45 S, IH-45 N, US-59 N, US-59 S, and US 290. Surrendering to the void of celebration, RideStores and Lost & Found will remain shuttered on the Fourth of July, leaving any misplaced belongings to await the return of their owners another day.
