
Independence Day celebrations in Carroll County ended in tragedy when gunfire erupted in Taneytown, leaving one person dead and several others injured. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office reported the incident occurred around 10:05 p.m. on July 4 along Bear Run Road and Runnymede Road, The area became a crime scene rather than a place of celebration, as reported by WMAR-2 News.
Responding to the scene were Sheriff's Office deputies, Maryland State Police, Taneytown Police, and Carroll County Fire and Emergency Services, who found multiple gunshot victims. They added that after one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the remaining victims were promptly transported to various hospitals for treatment, though as of yet, no information regarding their conditions or the total number of those injured has been released, according to Fox Baltimore.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, authorities announced there was not believed to be any further threat to the public, a detail underscored by all three sources covering the incident. The authorities have taken the reins of the investigation, "There is no threat to the public," authorities said, as per WBAL-TV, yet no further elaboration was made, leaving the community in a state of shaken concern.
