An Ingham County sheriff's deputy was lucky to escape injury when a firework, intended to celebrate the nation's Independence Day, made him its unintentional target. Reporting on the incident, CBS News Detroit detailed how deputies were responding to complaints of juveniles launching fireworks in Delhi Township. Arriving at the 5000 block of Hemlock Drive shortly after midnight, they found a party in progress.
According to a statement obtained by MLive, a speeding vehicle was seen by deputies, leaving the party, and from which the projectile firework was "intentionally launched" at them. Bouncing off the chest of one deputy, the firework exploded only seconds later. The deputies approached the gathering, caught in the middle of enforcing the law and the reckless abandon of celebration, which seemed to blur dangerously that night.
