Drivers navigating the interchange at Interstate 85 and Lane Street may need to budget extra time starting tomorrow. According to a press release from the N.C. Department of Transportation, contract crews will be executing construction work on the roundabouts there, given the weather agrees.
The work was slated to begin at 9 a.m. yesterday and will specifically impact those exiting I-85 North onto Westbound Lane Street. This stretch that's facing lane closures is specifically the inside lane of the eastern roundabout. The lane will remain closed until 6 a.m. Saturday, during which crews will remove, and then replace the existing concrete, understandably allowing it time to cure.
Traffic changes like these, though temporarily disruptive, are part of the ebb and flow of city maintenance. Officials urge motorists to exercise caution around the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely. Maintaining safety through this sector requires both the mindfulness of drivers and the precision of workers, each operating in their separate spheres but in service of the shared goal to keep the arteries of our city's infrastructure well-maintained and functioning.
The effects of the construction are temporary but the Department of Transportation prompts commuters to be vigilant during this period. Crews will be present, their equipment embodiments of change, transforming the ground upon which thousands of tires tread daily.
