Tragedy struck Columbia yesterday as Howard County Police began their investigation into the heartbreaking death of a 3-year-old boy, who was shot inside a residence on Harpers Farm Road. According to Howard County Police, the shooting incident that occurred yesterday is believed to have been accidental.
Authorities have outlined that an unsecured handgun in the home led to the fatal event. There remains uncertainty as to whether the gunshot was to accidentally self-inflict or if it was fired by another individual in the household. At the time of the incident, the child's 5-year-old brother and parents were also present. Investigators have indicated that they do not suspect outside involvement or foul play in the young boy's death.
No arrests or charges have occurred thus far, as the police continue with their inquiries.
