San Antonio recently played host to the Texas School Safety Conference, an annual event attended by School Resource Officers (SROs) from across the state, including a team from Irving. The conference, as per the Irving Police Department, offered these officers both valuable learnings and an opportunity to network with peers. After a productive sojourn in San Antonio, the officers are now turning their focus towards a community engagement initiative back home.

Known as Hoops & Kicks, the program is all set to commence tomorrow, aiming to strengthen connections between law enforcement and youth through sports. The officers, who were "ready to run" after their stint at the conference, seemed charged and eager to transfer the knowledge gained to practical community-building efforts. Attending the conference acted as "summer school" for the SROs, and equipped them to better serve and protect in an environment that is all too familiar with the vulnerabilities of safety within school grounds, as per the Irving Police Department.
