A tragic incident occurred last night in Kapolei with a 66-year-old pedestrian losing his life after an encounter with a vehicle. According to KITV, the man was critically injured when he was hit by a vehicle around 10 p.m. on Kapolei Parkway West and Kunehi St. He was later transported to a local hospital.
Upon arrival of emergency services, the victim was given advanced life-saving treatments, including CPR and medication administration, but despite the rapid response, he subsequently succumbed to his injuries. It was reported by Hawaii News Now that the man had been attempting to cross the street outside of a designated crosswalk when the collision occurred. An HPD representative informed that while neither alcohol nor drugs seem to have played a role, speed may have been a contributing factor.
The aftermath of the incident led to HPD closing Kapolei Parkway West from Kunehi St. to Fort Barrette Road. This closure was for the purpose of a collision investigation. As of the time of writing, there has been no indication of when the road will be reopened, and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
