Both Kaua'i and the Big Island are rolling out lane closures scheduled for the week of July 13–19. According to Kauai Now News, Kaua'i's closures will include stretches along the Kaumuali‘i Highway where grass cutting and guardrail repairs are on the agenda, while nightly and weekend work from Līhu‘e to Hanamaulu on the Kūhiō Highway will see striping, sign installations, and highway reconstructions; all projects are contingent upon cooperative weather.
On the Big Island, similar maintenance efforts are scheduled, with closures peppering routes from Hilo to Kailua-Kona, as detailed by Big Island Now. The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation warns that schedules may shift without notice. The stretch along Māmalahoa Highway from Waikoloa to Kailua-Kona is set up for shoulder work and vegetation cutting, while night work on Pu‘ainakō Street in Hilo focuses on widening the roadway.
Each respective island's transportation department reminds drivers to proceed with caution and patience around work zones, ensuring the safety of both road crews and fellow motorists.
