This summer, drivers and pedestrians are bracing for a series of disruptions on Northeast 85th Street, as a comprehensive construction initiative unfolds. Starting in July, travel through the area will see significant changes, including reduced left turn lanes to the I-405 on-ramps, as reported by the City of Kirkland, Washington. The most impactful period will be the full closure of Northeast 85th Street, slated to take place from July 26 to July 29.
During the full closure, the roadway between Kirkland Way/114th Avenue Northeast and 120th Avenue Northeast will not permit traffic in both directions. Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. on Monday, July 29, the closure is set to facilitate the construction of new I-405 bridge columns. Kirkland's website details that signed detours will be available to guide motorists and pedestrians, to minimize travel disruptions.
With increased congestion expected, drivers are encouraged to allow for extra travel time or to seek alternate routes during these weekends. Off-peak travel is also recommended. Updated details regarding the closure and any potential schedule changes, because the nature of construction work can be unpredictable, will be posted on both the WSDOT real-time travel map and the project webpage.
