A four-time convicted felon has been given a six-year federal prison sentence for firearm possession, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida announced. Kristian Ramos, age 44, from Kissimmee, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Paul G. Byron after pleading guilty on February 27, 2024, to the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Ramos, having previously been convicted of serious offenses such as robbery with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance, was barred from firearm possession under federal law.

A Beretta Nano 9mm handgun was involved in the offense. Being a previously convicted felon for robbery, Ramos was in possession of the firearm on May 23, 2023. The court has also ordered the forfeiture of the handgun. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, conducted the investigation leading to Ramos's conviction.

According to a press release from the Department of Justice, the case against Ramos was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Noah P. Dorman. This incident highlights the continuous efforts under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) to combine resources from all levels of law enforcement and communities to tackle violent crime and gun violence, aiming to create safer neighborhoods.

Launched by the Department on May 26, 2021, PSN's violent crime reduction strategy incorporates a fellowship that focuses on trust and legitimacy within communities, supporting organizations that proactively prevent violence, and establishing strategic enforcement priorities. While setting out to measure the results, Project Safe Neighborhoods has been aggressive in reinforcing its initiatives based on these core principles.
