According to the latest forecasts, Knoxville is bracing for a wet and stormy pattern in the upcoming days. The National Weather Service in Morristown has indicated an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms today, with the potential for heavy downpours and gusty winds. A detailed forecast projects showers and a possible thunderstorm later in the day, with a high temperature nearing 91 degrees and heat index values climbing to as high as 97.
With the mercury rising, residents should be aware heat indices will range from the mid-90s to the upper 100s this afternoon. The local forecast, which provides insights on the expected conditions over the valley, hills, and urban areas, is set to bring more of the same through the night generally. Locally gusty winds, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning are said to be in the offing with stronger storms. The NWS cautions residents to stay alert, especially as there is an 80% likelihood of precipitation tonight, with new rainfall amounts potentially ranging from a tenth to a quarter of an inch. However, higher amounts could occur in thunderstorms.
Looking forward to the rest of the week, the threat of widespread hazardous weather appears low. However, a Hazardous Weather Outlook was issued early this morning, signaling that multiple rounds of precipitation and thunderstorms are possible through Tuesday. While today's sweltering heat is a concern, it is expected to slightly decrease, with highs for the rest of the week reaching the mid-80s. Thursday, in particular, foresees a 60% chance of showers and a possible thunderstorm before 2pm, followed by more storms after 2pm.
Residents planning outdoor activities in the following days should be prepared to shield themselves from rain and adjust plans accordingly quickly. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to pop up, mainly after 2pm on Saturday, with the weather pattern set continuing to pose a challenge for any uninterrupted outdoor engagements. Weather patterns are prone to change rapidly, and as such, it is recommended to stay updated with the latest weather conditions.
