In Oakland County, a harrowing case has reached its conclusion as Adam Richard Williams, a 35-year-old man from Lake Orion, has been condemned to 26-50 years of incarceration for a brutal assault and rape of his ex-girlfriend. According to WWJ Newsradio, Williams's crimes included home invasion, sexual assault, and domestic violence, which occurred on July 31 and August 1, 2023, following the end of his relationship with the victim.
The sentencing, delivered by Judge Kwame Rowe on Monday, surpassed the established guidelines, which Rowe justified by pointing to the "egregious, despicable crimes" committed, as per Oakland County, Michigan. Williams's convictions came after a six-day trial held in May 2024, in which the jury found him guilty on all counts, apparently moved to do so after Williams continued to blatantly defy the judge’s orders. Prosecutor Karen McDonald lauded the verdict and sentence, emphasizing the impact on community safety and the importance of holding violent criminals responsible for their actions.
The prosecution's case, led by Chief of the Special Victims Unit Sarah Greene, illustrated a narrative of terror that unfolded shortly after the victim sought to sever ties with Williams. The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office highlighted the severity of the assault, wherein Williams not only illegally entered the home of his ex-girlfriend but also sexually assaulted and viciously beat her, escalating to the use of a baseball bat as a weapon.
"This was a horrific crime," McDonald stated, expressing relief that the sentence will protect the community from a "dangerous predator" and hopefully afford the victim a measure of peace, knowing her assailant is now behind bars, according to WWJ Newsradio's report.
