Last week a severe traffic collision involving two vehicles and a pedestrian unfolded at the intersection of South Decatur Boulevard and West Tropicana Avenue, leaving one in critical condition. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, at around 11:45 p.m. on July 19, a Lexus GS350, obeying its green light, collided with a Chevrolet Malibu which was prompted by its driver's decision to ignore a red turn arrow.
The force of the crash sent the Malibu, helmed by Jessica Carreon, 35, of Las Vegas, hurtling onto the sidewalk where an unnamed pedestrian was struck. Stopped initially because of a red signal, the Chevrolet's driver made a left turn, entering the path of the Lexus driven by Michael Woods, age 41, also of Las Vegas, which had been approaching from the opposite direction. Carreon, who showed signs of impairment, has been charged with DUI-related offenses and sustained moderate injuries.
The pedestrian, whose identity has yet to be disclosed pending notification, was rushed to UMC Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries. Carreon is also being treated at the same hospital. Woods, cooperating with the authorities' investigation, was transported for injuries he claimed to have suffered in the incident.
