The protracted manhunt for a suspect in a 2022 fatal shooting came to an end with a significant development, as U.S. Marshals apprehended 21-year-old John Marcos Araniva on July 30. Araniva, wanted in connection with the murder of Indigo Garza, 20, at 303 Rosamond Street last year, now faces charges of murder and tampering with evidence, as detailed in a news release.

According to the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division, on the evening of February 23, 2022, officers responded to a call reporting gunfire at an apartment complex. Upon arrival, they discovered Garza unresponsive in the parking lot, having sustained a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses had reported seeing a white minivan fleeing after the shots were heard. The investigation quickly identified Araniva alongside Joel Francisco Rojas, 25, and Sara Ramirez, 23, as suspects in connection with the crime.

Rojas and Ramirez had already been taken into custody on August 31, 2022. Both are charged in the 184th State District Court; Rojas with murder and tampering with evidence, and Ramirez with tampering with evidence. The arrest of Araniva by the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force rounded out the apprehension of all suspects involved. Booking photos of Araniva, Rojas, and Ramirez were made available in conjunction with the recent media release.

Sergeant T. Hollohazy and Detective J. Jorsch of the HPD Homicide Division, who were dispatched to last year's crime scene, reported “Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the apartment complex at the above address and found Ms. Garza unresponsive in the parking lot.  She had suffered a gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced her deceased at the scene,” in their official report of the incident.
