A road rage incident turned violent in Lawrenceville last week when a woman allegedly shot a man in his knee. The suspect, Yaqarah Bennett, 26, has been charged with aggravated assault, firearm possession during a crime, and second-degree child cruelty, as there was a toddler in her car at the time of the altercation, as reported FOX 5 Atlanta. Police were summoned to the intersection of West Pike Street and Old Norcross Road on Thursday, June 27, 2024 shortly after 7:40 p.m., following a report of a shooting.

Officers found the 28-year-old male victim in his vehicle with a gunshot wound to the right knee. He directed them to the scene of the shooting, less than a mile east on West Pike Street near Culver Street. There, police discovered two shell casings. Using the victim's description of the shooter, which included a unique tattoo, they identified Bennett as the suspect. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the man's wounds were minor, and he was treated and released.

Information given to the Lawrenceville Police enabled detectives to identify Bennett as the alleged shooter, who found themselves arrested the following day and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail before 7:30 p.m. Witnesses with any further insights into the incident are encouraged to contact Lawrenceville Police Detective Sampson via email at [email protected] or by dialing 770-670-5145.
