Leon Valley is gearing up to throw its annual Independence Day celebration, a tradition that both honors the military and offers a wealth of community activities. The "Heroes of Independence: Honoring our Military" event this year is crammed with activities ranging from a morning 5K to an evening filled with live music and fireworks, according to the city's official announcement.
For those willing to lace up their sneakers and kick off the day with a bang, the 5K Pioneer Firecracker Run/Walk is an invigorating start; then the evening rolls in bringing a parade that marks its 30th iteration this year, replete with food trucks and vendors selling all manner of trinkets and refreshments. Mario Flores & The Soda Creek Band along with Finding Friday are slated to provide live musical performances.
The celebration is set to close with a novel Laser Show & Fireworks Spectacular, a visual treat that promises to be both impressive and a fitting tribute to the service of military personnel. In lieu of classic fireworks, the laser show offers a twist on traditional Fourth of July pyrotechnics, bonding the community together under a sky illuminated by technicolor displays meant to resonate with the values of independence they commemorate.
