
A 17-year-old boy, Sahal Murdi, was found dead after what appeared to be a shooting incident in Lewiston, Maine, according to local authorities. The incident was reported around 10:30 p.m. last night on Rideout Avenue. WGME notes that Lewiston Police responded to a 911 call for shots fired and upon arrival, they discovered Murdi's body in the middle of the road.
Engaging with the investigation, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit is collaborating with the Lewiston Police Department. According to a statement obtained by NBC Boston, witnesses observed two vehicles—a silver Mercedes and a black Dodge Challenger with a temporary Maine registration plate—speeding away from the scene. The Mercedes's driver has been identified and is allegedly cooperating with police.
Murdi's body was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy is expected to determine the cause and manner of death. The death has struck the community with a note of tragedy, resonating a somber reminder of the ongoing challenge posed by gun violence.
While details continue to emerge, the cooperation from the Mercedes's driver could provide a crucial turn in the investigation.
