The Lewisville Police Department recently recognized the heroic actions of two of its officers. Chief Rollins awarded Officer Ruff and Officer Reid with life-saving honors for their exceptional intervention during a crisis in April, according to the Lewisville Police Department.
According to the account, the officers responded to a harrowing situation where a citizen was grappling with mental health issues and was on the brink of attempting suicide by jumping from a bridge. Officer Ruff and Officer Reid employed de-escalation techniques that ultimately convinced the individual to step down from the ledge. Their actions resulted in a life being saved, and the individual was subsequently taken to receive the necessary medical treatment.
The recognition ceremony took place during a morning briefing, underscoring the department’s commitment to highlighting the importance of mental health awareness and crisis intervention within the community.
