
The Lewisville Police Department recently recognized the heroic actions of two of its officers. Chief Rollins awarded Officer Ruff and Officer Reid with life-saving honors for their exceptional intervention during a crisis in April, according to the Lewisville Police Department.
According to the account, the officers responded to a harrowing situation where a citizen was grappling with mental health issues and was on the brink of attempting suicide by jumping from a bridge. Officer Ruff and Officer Reid employed de-escalation techniques that ultimately convinced the individual to step down from the ledge. Their actions resulted in a life being saved, and the individual was subsequently taken to receive the necessary medical treatment.
The recognition ceremony took place during a morning briefing, underscoring the department’s commitment to highlighting the importance of mental health awareness and crisis intervention within the community. The official commendation signifies more than just the valiance of these officers—it also serves as a testament to the department's training and dedication to handling mental health emergencies.
