
Seattle Police took a 42-year-old man into custody last week after reports surfaced of him discharging a firearm in South Seattle. The incident, which led to no injuries or property damage, has become a point of investigation for the city's Gun Violence Reduction Unit.
It was the evening of July 4th, around 9:12 p.m., when patrol officers were called to the 4500 block of South Fletcher Street. They were responding to alarming calls of, a man indiscriminately firing a gun while walking down the street. Upon arrival, officers found multiple shell casings at the scene but thankfully, no evidence of anyone hurt by the gunfire. According to details provided by the Seattle Police Department's blog, the suspect was later located inside a nearby residence and arrested without further incident.
The Seattle Police Department stated that the apprehended man faces charges of Aiming or Discharging a Firearm. Although what prompted the man to open fire remains under investigation, detectives from the Gun Violence Reduction Unit have since taken the lead in deciphering the motive behind this brazen act.
Police recovered the handgun used, along with additional ammunition, and seized both as evidence.
