
A man lies in critical condition following a motor vehicle accident on Friday night in Kalamazoo, as reported by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS). The collision occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. on the 3100 block of Portage Street.
According to WZZM13, the man sustained injuries when a southbound car struck him as he was believed to be crossing the road. When emergency responders arrived on the scene, they found the man unresponsive, lying on the sidewalk, and promptly administered first aid.
The individual was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition. While details surrounding the incident continue to unfold, FOX 17 News notes that the victim's identity has not been released to the public, and at this point, authorities do not believe that alcohol played a role in the crash.
WOODTV reports that the driver involved has been cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate the circumstances leading up to the accident. The incident led to the closure of the affected intersection for several hours to allow for investigation, and, cleanup but has since been reopened to traffic.
