A man is currently hospitalized after sustaining a gunshot wound during an early morning altercation in downtown Memphis, as confirmed by the Memphis Police Department. The incident, which occurred at the intersection of S. Main Street and Pontotoc Avenue around 4:20 a.m. Sunday, resulted in police discovering 18 shell casings scattered on the street, indicative of the severity of the event, as reported by WREG.
After arriving on the scene, the officers were alerted to the shooting victim at Methodist Central Hospital, changing locations to continue their investigation, according to WREG. The victim informed the officers that the shooting happened where the shell casings were found, this conjuncture of geography, and violence painting a stark image of the night's chaos.
The shooting seems to have stemmed from a disagreement involving the victim and a group of men near the Old Dominick Distillery on S. Front Street. The altercation escalated violently when three men reportedly exited a silver two-door Infiniti and began firing shots at the victim, one bullet striking him in the leg, as Local Memphis detailed.
