A 32-year-old man is currently in serious condition following a fall into a manhole at the Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant this early morning. The accident occurred just before 9 a.m. in the 1300 block of Sand Island Parkway.
Emergency units, including the Honolulu Fire Department, were swiftly to respond to the distress call. The victim, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was found to have sustained significant injuries to his back and legs. According to a statement obtained by Hawaii News Now, the man was rescued by HFD crews and brought to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
No information has been revealed about whether the injured man was an employee at the treatment plant or not. An EMS team at the scene attempted to provide advanced life-support before transferring the man to the emergency room for further treatment.
